The Superstition Wilderness is a tangled labyrinth of rock formations and myths. The Tonto National Forest manages this wilderness. There are over 105 Hikes within the Superstition Mountains with countless optional combinations and Loops. Day hiking & backpacking are very popular throughout the wilderness.

Tales of the Lost Dutchman have intrigued many to scour every inch of this land. Reading up on the Dutchman might get you hooked too.

This Wilderness was designated in 1939, and was expanded to its present size in 1984. It now contains approximately 225 square miles. There is a well-developed trail system, and the western end of the wilderness receives heavy use during the cooler times of the year. Trail conditions vary from fair to very poor.

A group size of no more than 15 people is enforced within this wilderness yearlong.

The area is starkly beautiful and often rugged, but can be inhospitable to those not equipped to meet nature on her own terms. Searing heat and a shortage of water are typical conditions in the summer. Bitter cold, rains (and even snowstorms) may occur in the winter.

These tours do not operate in the hot summer months. It is a perfect choice from October 1 through April 30.
