Adventure Advice

This will answer some of the most frequently asked questions. Please call to make reservations and for more information.

Apache Trail Tours (ATT) specializes in Outdoor Adventure! Arizona's awesome outdoors offers both soft and hard adventure opportunities and the Apache Trail and Superstition Mountains provides the perfect setting.

We are located at Goldfield Ghost Town - the valley's only authentic Ghost Town - at the base of the majestic Superstition Mountains. Just minutes east of Phoenix and southeast of Scottsdale. Goldfield Ghost Town is 3 miles north of Apache Junction on the historic Apache Trail.
Our tours explore the Superstition Mountains and the world famous Apache Trail - both of which are located in the Tonto National Forest. We are the only outfitter authorized to off-road here and we take the caretaker/stewardship responsibility seriously. We can offer you a most pristine and private adventure. It will appear that the region is locked in a time warp. We love it that way!
Our trails actually transverse the territory where the gold rush took place in the 1800's and we specialize in educating our guests about the history of the area. Treasure legends of Jacob Waltz (the Dutchman) and his lost gold Mine are world-renown. The Dutchman's Treasure Legend has been featured on TV's Unsolved Mysteries and many other PBS Specials.

Arizona's Native American culture is an equally important part of our heritage. We'll share tales of the fierce Apaches that hold this ground sacred. We educate our guests on how the Native American used the desert resources for food, medicine and survival. Our guides have gathered information from recognized historians, a multi-cultural Native American Medicine Man, mining experts, Dutch-Hunters (treasure hunters), and cowboys to present regional history with southwestern flare. We have been especially honored to share the history of Eva Tulene Watt, a White Mountain Apache, and her family's participation in the building of the Apache Trail and Roosevelt Dam. Don't forget to pick up a copy of her book "Don't Let the Sun Step Over You" in our office!

Our western heritage is alive and well - let us share it with you!
ATT offers Jeep tours, hiking treks, western cookouts, gold panning adventures and many tour packages, which can include horseback riding, and other sites and attractions. A simple needs analysis for the most diverse groups or individual preferences will determine which services best satisfy your desire for adventure. Ask about our new team building event, Geo-Caching for Gold - a treasure hunt in the desert utilizing GPS units!
We have a two person minimum on most of our tours however our full day tours require a four person minimum. Individual parties may enjoy an adventure with us by joining an already scheduled tour. Our new big red Jeeps can seat 8 comfortably and we can accommodate up to 150 guests for group Jeep tours.
Advance guaranteed-reservations are highly recommended for individuals and small groups. The more advance notice we have, the more likely we will be able to accommodate your preferences. Walk-ins may enjoy our tours based on availability. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. That will allow time to check-in, use the facilities and load your camera before we hit the trail. Tours depart promptly, don't be late!
When we confirm your reservation, we make a commitment to hold those seats for you. We may not be in a position to accommodate all callers and there is a possibility we will turn down business because we are committed to you. For this reason, a guaranteed-reservation is required. Should you have to cancel your tour within 48 hours of the scheduled departure time/event, a 25% non-refundable service charge will be billed to your credit card. If you cancel the day of your tour or are a No-Show, the full amount will be billed. Group cancellation policies will be outlined in your contract.
We accept gold nuggets, cash, company checks, Master Card, Visa, Discover and American Express.
There are no limits! We recommend that you consider your own enjoyment and value of this adventure when planning. Our trails are rugged and if you are blessed with the spirit of adventure, you will enjoy this! We would not recommend that a guest with physical limitations such as neck or back injuries, recent surgery or chronic pain reserve a tour. If you are 6 months pregnant or concerned about any physical limitations, we would recommend our Tenderfoot Trail versus the off-road adventures. Often an outdoor adventure will recharge and refresh the spirit.
We suggest casual and comfortable clothing based on current weather conditions. Desert evenings are sometimes cool and require a light jacket or sweatshirt. Dress in layers for warmth, and peel them off as the temperature rises. It is advisable to call us for a weather update a couple days prior to your tour. We always recommend wearing closed toed shoes, sneakers or hiking boots are perfect.
You will definitely want to bring your camera! This is the most fascinating eco-system in the world and you will be amazed by the flora and fauna of the lower Sonoran Desert. Our Jeeps are covered, but you may wish to bring sun screen, a hat for shade or other personal items you won't be comfortable without. We provide complimentary soda and water for the duration of the adventure. A variety of restaurants are located at Goldfield Ghost Town for food and beverage prior to or after the tour. Please allow enough time so that your meal is completed before boarding the Jeeps. We do not allow food on board.
